A fine thinker of an essay, thanks for publishing this. Only one, just one, questionable association that I found, and that wrapped in the subtleties of the English language to the point of being more a maybe than a sales pitch. All in all a fine effort IMO.

The key concept of the power, and limits on that power, of the executive branch of government is of critical import to the survival of our democracy.

One point I would put forward involves a deep question concerning the environment P.DT is operating in, specifically and to wit the functional status of that beast called “the bureaucracy.” By a strict definition of the word “executive” is not the bureaucracy already a defacto component of the executive functions of government? I would say it is.

Given that the bureaucracy is a constitutionally undefined executive function of government, and equally established that the majority of P.DT’s assaults are one functions governed by that entity, it then resolves that what we are witnessing is in fact an internal power struggle between two distinct departments of the Federal Executive function… one defined by the constitution, and the other evolved to meet the operational requirements of an organization the size of the US government.

Lit from that angle P.Dt is indeed shredding convention, precedence and status quo, to defend the constitution by reclaiming the powers evolved into the bureaucracy to be within the purvue of the checks and balances defined on his office.. He is one man, mortal, time will tell if he is ultimately honorable enough to handle such a power struggle without letting it take him into and onto the registry of Draconian Tyrants..

Watchman, what of the night?
