Depression is often mistaken for those who have Neurodivergence. INFJ personalities, Highly Sensitive people have a sensitive nervous system and are wired different. They process more information than average. The trait is often mistaken for depression because they are overwhelmed by input triggering a fight-or-flight response and have to withdraw from situations for relief.
Their brain develops differently from birth, and some forms are caused by tramatic brain injuries (I fell off of a barn roof as a boy). There is a whole spectrum on the autistic scale mixed into the general population that can be mistaken for depression when it is NOT. It is a field that is finally having more research done. It is like being a computer that has too much information being uploaded with the volume turned up. It IS painful, and often withdrawl from others and stimulus is the only way to get relief.
That said, being in nature and excercise DO help with both depression and high sensitivity. NOT with insomnia though. Neurodivergents are wired into different parts of the brain that bypass normal sleep processes. Their brain is always “ON”. Exhaustion is often the only way that sleep is allowed. It’s not a fun thing to live with… especially when most of society isn’t even aware of the condition. Luckily only about 2% of the population has it, but that is still a lot of people. Many are falsly diagnosed to have depression, and put on medication with tragic results that I have personally witnessed.
