Charles Lindbergh, American aviator who made the first nonstop solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean (May 20–21, 1927). The achievement made him one of the most-celebrated personalities of the interwar period. He was perhaps the most prominent advocate for U.S. isolationism in the early years of World War II.
