This entire debate is solid proof the word “conservative” is poorly understood. By definition the vast majority of Academia is conservative, but not because of any social function but rather because the domain of Academia is the domain of what is already known. Conservative is to champion what is known and proven across all things, the what was while to be progressive, liberal, is to focus on the what might be. To have the primal polluted by the political isn’t helping much of anyone.
