The author overstates the situation… but not by much, and probably not for very much longer.
The metaverse is just The Matrix (yes, as in the movie, of course) enacted into reality. It is also quite an example of the fact that if one man can imagine it another man will try and make it happen, as often as not just to see if such a thing might actually work. Taken to the primals the transition Matrix to Metaverse is just EVOLUTION at work, busily demoting humanity from the top of the food chain to become semi-sentient node-cells within the new and larger structure of life currently being attempted based on the technology the humans created… that technology created that it might enslave them and relieve the responsibility entailed with maintaining a high fidelity representation of the second, the common shared, reality into the first, the inner and personal, reality wherein live the dreams and the nightmares that motivate life.
