TheAtlantic, a preeminent voice that speaks for the urban fauxLiberal, writing about the folks who live in ThePacific West. Hmmmm… but anyway.

It would probably be easier for Eastern Oregon to throw in with Northern California and form a new state than untangle existing borders. But that’s no answer.

The answer is for the people of the United States to realize that contrary to what some folks say society and social conventions are not a one size fits all kind of thing… what works in a city does not work in the country and vice versa.

Arguing from the heart I’d say It’s time to modify regional representation in Government to be weighted by critical functionality rather than population. But… while that totally appeals to the country boy in my soul the philosopher on horseback which is the rest of me is terrified of how totally destructive that would be in other ways… being as how by that measure give or take 80% to 85% of the remaining population would end up quite disenfranchised. History pretty well proves its the disenfranchised who go radical violent in defense of the only life they know.

We wouldn’t be gaining anything to shift the balance of fear to where its the city folk who were loading their guns and talking about raiding out into the countryside to keep their city alive instead of the country folk laying plans to blow the bridges and cut the water and gas lines to effectively seal the city folk in their cement cemeteries to protect the land and those who live on it. One would precipitate the other, and it wouldn’t matter which one moved first.

Watchman, what of the night?
