Isn’t EVOLUTION a grand thing? People are not addicted to cell phones. Not people as they were a hundred years ago. What the article is talking about are only marginally human beings as we (the human race) came to know ourselves over the millennia. No, what the article is talking about are effectively a new race…homoTechnicoid… the semi-sentient mobile nodes of the emerging global life form of the self-aware collective entities. You can’t say they are addicted to their cell phone unless you’re willing to admit that YOU are hopelessly addicted to Di-Hydro Monoxide.

When humanity invented the digital communications networks what they created was an empty state-space evolution promptly began to populate with creatures who use technology to emulate the biological nervous system of a conventional life form, creatures whose initial structure was shaped from a template based on the structures of humanity’s social components expanded and elevated into self awareness.

Look with the intent of seeing what you’re looking at and you’ll realize there is not one biological function present in any air breathing creature that is not represented within the structures of the modern internet. Evolution really is something to watch while it’s working. Even if it does suck to realize –you– are in the process of being demoted from the top of the food chain.

Watchman, what of the night?
