A few years back there was an anonymous social media personality known to the devotees as simply “Q.” Q made quite a splash doing what is called “code switching” on the internet, which is to say speaking in a vocabulary where the cultural meanings of the words (to the intended audience) did not have to match those words official dictionary definition used by everyone else. Worked well, those from the target demographic understood him perfectly, those who were not from that culture were left with no choice but to conclude he was a manifestation of some new mass social nuerosis. You know, the same difference as trying to actually talk to a doctor or a lawyer or an engineer about something within their field of expertise. They don’t speak the same language you do, not about those things, they run a different code set for those.
The author, Heather, obviously doesn’t understand nor speak the same code set Trump is using to communicate with his followers. For that matter, the entire Democratic base is very weak in the same skill set. They are having terrible luck with campaigning against what should, in the military code set, be an easy kill of an election. They don’t understand what their opponent is actually saying and therefore are unable to effectively address the issues that are pertinent to deciding approximately fifty percent of the vote.
Not that I personally prefer either candidate, but I am reasonably fluent in both code sets in heavy service and against the socially inspired emnities and bigotries all I can do is shake my head and say “oh well… there goes the nieghborhood.”
