    Thank you for publishing this!

Dr. Frances overstated his case a bit, but only a bit allowing for the political pressures involved. There is emerging evidence that the use of glyphosate herbicides (most common brand name Roundup) show a fairly strong correlation to the rates of confirmed autism (old definition), but the mechanism proposed is multi-generational affecting the mother before the child, and deeply embedded in the food chain… easy to suspect and very hard to prove. That is the potential I hope Mr. Kennedy will focus on. Of note: Monsanto, the ag Chem giant who initially introduced Roundup into commercial agriculture, very quietly sold themselves to the German Bayer Corp some years ago, taking themselves out of the American jurisdiction. Hmmm… do they know something the rest of us don’t?

As for the anti-vax crowd there is one potential for Mr. Kennedy to investigate that leaves both sides telling the truth… the potential that the egg protein used to prepare many of the vaccines (MMR in particular) could be a mutagenic allergen to some children influencing the gene expression that controls critical brain maturation functions if administered at just the wrong point in the child’s development. Again, easy to suspect and hard to prove since the window of vulnerability would be no wider than that relatively short period on the development curve. I have never heard of any pediatrician testing for such a reaction prior to sticking the kid, have you?

Still, this article was a brave thing for the man to do, and even allowing for the above I’d say he’s closer to right than wrong when considering all of the socio-political factors involved.

Watchman, what of the night?
