Loading all of transportation on already overloaded electric grids does not make sense. My vote is still hydrogen fired steam turbine for mobile power. Steam turbines are mid to high rpm devices, so using a dynamo/electric motor combo for reduction gearing makes perfect sense, but powering the vehicle on batteries does not.
Of equal if not greater importance is the need for high horsepower units for agriculture and freight.. Cars are relatively punk little power plants, but I’ve not heard a whisper of any battery that can effectively power a large tractor or combine. Those don’t go home every night to get recharged. Mechanized ag started out on steam, that’s where it should return.
