I might argue that social media is/was humanity’s failed best effort to replace the “imbedded village” functionality of the the church… the parish, the ward, the coven mux nix… as Empire Academia and the fauxLiberal assault on Religion solidified into a social force of significant power. Or, to set a different POV and approach vector on that thought? Social media is to the religion of Humanism what sacrament and ritual are to the others.
Eh, what the whale. They’re not the first and won’t be the last to try and insert something hallucinogenic into a church service, and then wonder why their congregation made a mushroom cloud on their way out the door..
