I would also say that nature plays deep in this scenario. We men are configured/evolved to deal with a hostile wilderness to provide such security and sustenance for the women and children as we can. When the wilderness is tamed, as it now is on Planet Earth, the majority of our evolved function is no longer a valid concern, sustenance is a social factor rather than a supply issue. Of the evolved functions only security (against others of our own kind competing for limited resources) remains a valid concern, and that only in inverse proportion to the innate civility of the culture/society in focus. Given these facts the situation that presents should be no surprise. Society is a slut, amoral pragmatic and usually quite mercenary on her own behalf. She’ll invent what is needed to meet the current need be that need understood, or not.
Yes, even to the point of splitting politics neatly down the middle so both us and them are within our own borders so the spin doctors and propaganda masters can pit an attack dog against a con artist for the highest office in the land to waste off excess energy. Necessity is not only the mother of invention, she’s a stone cold *itch as well.
Mars. The boys desperately need a new wilderness. Mars should work until a a working FTL drive is on the books.
