US President Donald Trump and his administration have faced backlash after the U.S. sided with Russia, North Korea, and Belarus at the UN in not assigning blame to Vladimir Putin - with whom a Trump insider claims the President has built a 'friendship' - for the unlawful invasion of Ukraine.
The United States, together with the three authoritarian regimes, opposed a UN General Assembly resolution urging Russian troops to pull out of the conflict-ridden nation, for which Trump's alleged 'peace plan' was recently leaked.
The proposal, created by Ukraine and several European nations, was approved on Monday - as Trump met with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, who said that Russia was the 'aggressor' in the conflict - with 93 votes in support. Eighteen countries opposed it, while 64, including China, chose to abstain.

The US's move has been met with horror in some quarters. As quoted by The Independent, Lord Heseltine, a former deputy prime minister who was part of the UK government that supported the US against Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait, stated that Trump had aligned himself with a "new axis."
Lord Heseltine continued: “Those of us who admire America will find this axis of the US with China, Russia and North Korea in a UN vote inexplicable. We have relied on American support which enabled us to defeat the fascists in the 1940s and saw the rehabilitation of democracy in post war Atlantic alliance and it has now thrown an incentive not to peacekeepers but to those who threaten the stability of the modern world.”
Sir Malcolm Rifkind, a former UK foreign secretary, also told The Independent: “Disgraceful but all part of Trump’s tactics to endear himself to Putin and increase the prospects of getting Putin to agree a deal.”
Earlier last week, President Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of provoking the war, labeling him a "dictator."
