Democrat Reveals Who's First on the Subpoena List in Trump Family

Brett Meiselas 5-6 minutes 7/25/2026

Key Points

  • Democrats plan aggressive Trump family oversight if they win House in 2026 midterms.
  • Rep. Ansari promises subpoenas for Trump family, citing "unprecedented levels of corruption."
  • Investigations may target Donald Trump, his children, and their business activities linked to government.

If Democrats reclaim control of the House in the 2026 midterms, Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) says the Trump family should expect something they have avoided under Republican leadership: aggressive congressional oversight—and subpoenas.

Appearing on the MeidasTouch Podcast with Ben Meiselas, Ansari said House Democrats are already preparing what she described as a “laundry list” of subpoenas aimed at investigating what she called unprecedented corruption surrounding President Donald Trump and his family.

When Meiselas asked directly whether Americans could see subpoenas issued to Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Barron Trump if Democrats win back the House, Ansari didn’t hesitate.

“I hope to issue one of those myself,” she said. “Absolutely.”

Ansari pointed specifically to Donald Trump Jr., arguing that his business dealings warrant congressional scrutiny.

“Donald Trump Jr. has been at the forefront and has made record profits because he is a partner at a venture capital firm that continues to invest in companies that are getting contracts from the federal government, oftentimes no-bid contracts from the federal government at the direction of senior administration officials,” she said.

She suggested the investigations would not necessarily stop with Trump’s children.

“And who knows, maybe Donald Trump himself,” Ansari added, describing what she believes are “unprecedented levels of corruption.”

According to Ansari, Democrats are already preparing for the possibility of taking over committee gavels in January.

“We are preparing. What’s the laundry list of subpoenas that we’re going to have ready to go at our first hearing?” she said, adding that the “amount of corruption is staggering” and promising that witnesses would be brought “under oath in front of the American people.”

The comments came after Ansari discussed her recent letter urging House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer to investigate contacts between members of the Trump orbit, and Andrew and Tristan Tate, who face criminal charges for rape and sex trafficking in the United Kingdom and Romania. In that letter, Ansari cited reporting describing alleged connections involving Barron Trump and called for a broader examination of possible political interference surrounding the brothers.

During the interview, Meiselas asked whether Barron Trump, now an adult, should also be subject to congressional oversight if evidence supports it.

Ansari argued that members of the Trump family who choose to participate in political and business activities connected to the administration should not be treated as off-limits.

“They choose to be involved with the campaigns. They choose to be involved with the administration,” she said. “Therefore, if they are committing crimes or if they are engaging in activity that is against the law in any way, shape or form, then they ultimately have to be held accountable for that.”

She also contrasted what she described as the Trump family’s financial gains with policies she says have harmed ordinary Americans.

“It’s not just that they’re making billions of dollars,” Ansari said. “At the same time they’re ripping away health care from Americans… they’re refusing to lower the cost of living for American people while they get richer and richer and richer because their dad is in the White House.”

The Arizona Democrat also said she believes President Trump himself should testify before Congress.

“I think Donald Trump himself needs to come testify, especially before the Oversight Committee as it pertains to the Epstein files,” she said. “The work ahead, I will tell you, there’s no lack of it.”

The representative’s remarks provide one of the clearest previews yet of how Democrats intend to wield oversight power if they gain the majority during November’s midterm elections. Rather than focusing solely on President Trump, she suggested investigations would extend across the president’s family and business network—with subpoenas, sworn testimony, and public hearings at the center of that effort.
