Epstein Files Discharge Petition Reaches 106 Signatures

The House discharge petition seeking to force a vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act II has continued to gain support, reaching 106 signatures as of September 3rd. The petition added 27 members in its latest round, all Democrats, bringing the total to 104 Democrats and two Republicans, Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina.

The petition needs 218 signatures to force a House vote, leaving it 112 signatures short of the threshold.

Massie launched the discharge petition on the House floor while reading the names of people who should be investigated and prosecuted in connection with Jeffrey Epstein. He has also warned, and was proven to be correct on this, that a possible House recess until after the midterm elections could interfere with the effort, asking whether such a move would be intended to “avoid the vote.”

Speaker Mike Johnson, who expressed displeasure over Massie’s effort to hold pedophiles accountable, sent the house home as Massie’s discharge petition began to obtain signatures. The Epstein Files Transparency Act II would strengthen mechanisms surrounding the release of Epstein-related records and provide additional avenues for victims and state attorneys general to obtain the records.
