no it was the ayatollahs that overthrew him and put the shah in…only to turn on him because he wouldnt reign in the middle class that was becoming GASP too liberal… then and only then did the shah turn to CIA… unfortunately the very middle class he sought to protect- turned on him for his crackdown on the religious radicals… ironically after the middle class overthrew the shah… they themselves were overthrown by the Ayatollahs who instituted direct rule via theocracy ..lucky for them their ancient enemy Iraq attacked them to retake land stolen by the shah… which is the only thing that kept the masses from rising up…until now!
