I agree with President Joe one hundred percent. America is nowhere close to “normal” these days. MAGA, Rainbow Snowflakes, Karen libTard, Joe conTard… none of these are a “normal” phenomenon. All of them indicate a will of deep and subtle malice directed at the nation, the culture, the people. All of them indicate the presence of a polarizing psycho-social pathogen so contagious as to make Covid look like yesterday’s case of the sniffles.
If we lived in Tolkien’s Middle Earth I’d say Sauron is back, Sauron the Deceiver as he was known in the second age of the sun, Sauron who could appear so fair, so wise, so benign while working the secret will of his master Morgoth. Folks, The Lord of the Rings is a masterpiece of fantasy fiction, and like most masterpieces of great fiction it is crafted from components of the reality known by those who read it. Who in our world conforms to those descriptions? Who? The names won’t match, magic is become technology, but that’s of little consequence. We are where doomed Numenor was… who did we take captive and in arrogant foolishness allow access to our land and our people? Who hosts that dark spirit in the here and now?
I have my ideas as to where to look for the modern iteration of Sauron, others I’m sure have theirs’. My vote is we launch the philosophical manhunt of all time, collect and compare and correlate those ideas… and maybe, just maybe, we’ll be able to recognize the modern land of Mordor in time to mount a defense. Maybe.
