Back in the day I told my totally distraught wife “look, it’s a horrible thing just went down, but… not a common thing. As long as it’s considered stop the presses front page news there’s not that much to worry about. When it gets common enough to only run third page local? Then it’s time to worry.” We’re not that cynical yet, but… we are dangerously close.
As for the politicians and failed careers? In a nation where civilians are empowered “keep and bear arms” and that nation DOES NOT mandate firearm familiarization and safety training as part of every junior high school curriculum? As far as I’m concerned the politicians of that nation are guilty of negligent homicide. I’m hardcore on that point: both political polarities are very, very guilty on that point. Put it in front of Congress in just those words, and tell the shrinks to sit down and shut up. The kids won’t be that traumatized to learn the truth and anyway, it’s just more grist for your mill anyway.
