My Victorian raised grandmother was related to the Eastman family and she was an early fan of photography.
My parents were homesteaders and didn’t have time for pictures, so my grandma documented every important
milestone of us six kids growing up. My favorite photo of her (Lillian) is of her on horseback in the Horse Heaven Hills in 1919. She’s wearing a split riding skirt when only a few of the Rodeo women dared to. She instilled a love of photography and history in me. I remember looking through huge books at her house full of photos of Silent Movie stars. She never batted an eye or edited my looking at nudes in the book. To this day, I beleive that Hedy Lamarr and her horse in the 1933 movie, “Ecstasy” were the basis for my going on to paint nude cowgirls. Grandma was cool.
